Abstract

Solar distillation can be a sustainable alternative energy option to get fresh water from salt water. Distillation with solar energy is one of the cheap devices used for the solar desalination process in most parts of Indonesia. Numerical simulation is an analytical tool that has the ability to handle many types of complex systems. Computational fluid dynamics analysis (CFD) can play an important role in optimizing water production, energy consumption, and thermal-based desalination unit costs. Solar still modeling uses multiphase type flow with the number of phases is 3 namely air, water and water vapor. The temperature collector experimentally and the temperature collector simulatively have reached a value close to that.
