Allegation of Research Misconduct
Research misconduct includes, but is not limited to, fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, citation manipulation, and other unethical practices in conducting, reviewing, or reporting research. Such practices undermine the credibility of scientific findings and the integrity of the scholarly record. Jurnal Teknik Kimia dan Lingkungan (JTKL) is committed to upholding research integrity and ensuring that all published articles meet established standards of academic and publication ethics.
When allegations of research misconduct arise, the Editor-in-Chief and editorial team will handle the matter impartially and confidentially, following the relevant principles and best practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All allegations will be assessed carefully, and appropriate action will be taken based on the nature and severity of the alleged misconduct. Manuscripts found to involve research misconduct during the editorial or peer-review process will be rejected. If misconduct is identified in a published article, the journal may issue a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction, as appropriate, to preserve the accuracy and reliability of the scientific record.
The process begins with a preliminary assessment to determine whether the allegation falls within the scope of research misconduct and whether sufficient information is available to warrant further investigation. The editorial team will also consider any potential conflicts of interest involving the complainant, the authors, or other parties involved in the case.
If the initial assessment indicates a reasonable possibility of misconduct or serious irregularities, the corresponding author will be contacted and invited to provide an explanation and relevant supporting evidence on behalf of all co-authors. The editorial team will evaluate the response objectively and may consult independent experts, including statistical or methodological specialists, when necessary. If the concerns can be resolved through clarification, additional analysis, or correction of the published work, the journal will consider the appropriate corrective action in accordance with publication ethics guidelines.
JTKL recognizes that institutions affiliated with the authors play an important role in investigating allegations of research misconduct. When necessary, the journal may refer the matter to the relevant institution for a formal investigation and consider the findings when determining further action. Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of their research, while the journal is responsible for responding appropriately to credible concerns about published work.
Through a fair, transparent, and consistent approach to handling allegations of research misconduct, Jurnal Teknik Kimia dan Lingkungan (JTKL) seeks to protect the integrity of the scientific record, maintain public trust in scholarly publishing, and uphold responsible research and publication practices.
