Abstract

Rats are among the major pests that cause significant losses in agriculture, warehousing, and residential areas, highlighting the need for a more effective, automated, and environmentally friendly control system. This study aims to design and develop an Internet of Things (IoT)-based rat repellent system using the NodeMCU ESP8266 by integrating a PIR HC-SR501 sensor and an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor through AND logic as a detection validation mechanism. The research employed a design-and-build and experimental approach, with system performance evaluated through four detection scenarios to assess sensor performance, AND logic implementation, buzzer activation, 16×2 I2C LCD display, and Telegram Bot notification delivery. The results of 16 experimental trials demonstrated that the system operated according to the intended design. System responses, including buzzer activation, LCD information display, and Telegram notifications, were triggered only when both sensors detected an object simultaneously. The implementation of AND logic improved system reliability by reducing the potential for false alarms, while the integration with the Telegram Bot enabled real-time remote monitoring. Therefore, the proposed system has the potential to serve as an automated and effective solution for rat pest control while supporting remote monitoring capabilities.
